We have the honour and pleasure of inviting you to the 47th European Go Congress, the first ever to be held in Russia. This event will be a unique festival of Go and entertainment, hosted by the Russian Go Federation in cooperation with the European Go Federation. With kind support from the City Government and the Japanese Consulate in St. Petersburg, we hope to make this the best European Congress. This year is very important for St. Petersburg, because it is the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city. The main celebration will be in June, but some events will last on into autumn. So you have a great chance to join the celebration and to enjoy the holiday of St. Petersburg!

The Congress will be held on the Campus of St. Petersburg State University, which is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the town - Peterhof (Petrodvorets). The town of Peterhof (Petrodvoretz) lies on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, 30 km away from St. Petersburg (in the direction of Tallinn), and it is administratively a part of St. Petersburg. During the summer it becomes a very important tourist centre, having the former summer residence of the Russian Tzar, along with a lot of palaces, parks, fountains and sculptures. A short way from Peterhof there are other famous places like Oranienbaum (Lomonosov) - 10 km, Gatcina - 30 km, Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) - 40 km, Pavlovsk - 40 km.

There are frequent local trains between Peterhof and the Baltic Railway Station ("Baltiisky vokzal") of St. Petersburg, as well as many buses between Peterhof and certain St. Petersburg metro stations (e.g. "Avtovo").
